Ileitis is inflammation in the ileum, which is part of the small intestine. It is most commonly caused by Crohn’s disease, but sometimes, other conditions, like infections or ischemia can cause it. Overuse of over-the-counter pain medications may also cause ileitis in some people.

Can a person recover from ileitis?

It is possible to recover from an acute episode of ileitis, but if this condition occurs with Crohn’s disease, it is likely to be chronic. Crohn’s is an inflammatory bowel disease that typically involves periods of remission and relapse. Treatment can make symptoms of Crohn’s disease manageable, but it is possible to experience serious complications with this condition.

Does everyone with ileitis have Crohn’s disease?

While Crohn’s disease is the most common cause of ileitis, it is possible to experience ileitis without having Crohn’s disease. For example, an intestinal infection or irritation may cause a temporary bout of ileitis.

How is ileitis treated?

Treatment for ileitis depends upon the cause. A doctor may perform an X-ray to examine the small intestine and determine the cause of ileitis and the best course of treatment. If ileitis occurs through the course of Crohn’s disease, you will likely require medications to treat it. Many people with Crohn’s disease also require surgery at some point.

Common Symptoms

  • “I have painful bouts of diarrhea, and during these bouts, I have blood in my stool.”
  • “I have abdominal cramping, along with a lack of appetite, which has caused weight loss.”
  • “I developed fever and abdominal pain, and I had diarrhea that didn’t get better with over-the-counter medications.”

Marilyn M.
It was a very good experience!! A well oiled machine from the beginning with doing the call back to set up an appointment, sending all necessary info that was needed for the colonoscopy plus answering all questions that I had. Following up with reminders for the date and time I had to be there. The day of every person was very kind and considerate of what was happening from start to the time I went home, with a friendly call later to see if I was ok and if I had any questions. A Top notch facility and Staff!! Thank you 😃
Denise D.

Dr. Donat was friendly and upbeat and took the time to speak with me and my Family about my procedure. I felt I was in great hands with him and his amazing staff. Thank you to Dr Donat and his staff putting me to ease.
Chester M.
Each number of the surgical unit was very professional, detailed, asking if you had any questions, alerting me as to what was to come next. All in all they made me feel so comfortable, and the process was such that I hardly knew I had gone through anythingafter the surgery
Joanne G.
Dr. Abidar continues to listen and respond to all of my questions and concerns in a concise and direct manner. He is direct and seems to doctor in a way that does not immediately solve every problem with a new prescription. I appreciate that very much.
Debbie H.
I had a colonoscopy at the Center for Digestive Health/Macomb Endoscopy Center. I felt very much at ease and the procedure went extremely well. Dr. Weber was kind and somehow it made me know that I was in good hands. The anesthesiologist was also great. After the necessary, nasty prep for this, it is such a relief when the actual procedure goes so smooth.
Nina R.
Getting a Colonoscopy is something I tried to avoid as long as I could. But my most recent one at surgical centers was such a positive experience from the receptionist to the doctor to recovery and even a call later that day to make sure I was ok, was much appreciated. Everyone was pleasant, professional and efficient. They told my husband to come back in 40 minutes once I left the lobby, and they were spot on exactly on time. Considering no one wants to have one, but if you need to... this is the best place.
susan J.
I have been to two of Dr. Willie's offices. His staff are very friendly. Dr. Willie himself is awesome! If you call with any questions his assistant gets back to you the same day.
Paula T.
Friendly daily reminders made me get the prep right!! All personnel were efficient and professional.

FAQs

What happens during my first visit?
If you are a new patient, you can expect to have a complete physical exam. You will also be asked detailed questions about your current problems and your past medical history, your current medications, allergies, your family history and other pertinent medical information. If you are taking medications, please bring a completed medical history form with you to your appointment. Once the physician has reviewed your medical information and completed the physical examination, a plan of care will be developed. You may need to be seen again in the office, be referred back to your family physician for follow-up care, or require additional testing. If additional tests are needed, we will assist you in scheduling these tests.
What if I need to schedule an endoscopic procedure?

An endoscopic procedure allows the physician to visualize a part of your gastrointestinal tract with a special instrument called an endoscope. If your family physician has ordered testing, you will be contacted by telephone by one of our staff members. If a physician orders testing and you are in the office, the procedure can generally be scheduled during the course of your visit. You will be given a date, time, and location for the test, as well as written instructions telling you how to prepare for the test. If you have any questions about the procedure, please feel free to ask one of our staff members or the physician.

How do I get test results?

We ask that you wait 10 to 14 days before contacting us for results. Often results come from several different sources. This information needs to be compiled and reviewed by your physician before you can be appropriately advised.

What insurances do you accept?

We accept payment from most insurance companies including Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Physicians Health Plan, Cofinity, Sparrow Professional Health Network, Medicaid, McLaren, Health Plus, and several others. Accepted insurances are subject to change at any time without notice.

If your insurance requires an authorization from your primary care physician, you may be asked to assist us in obtaining this authorization.

All patients are responsible for all copays and deductibles at the time of service.

If you have any questions regarding your benefits or insurance coverage, please contact our Billing Department at 248-844-9710.

What if I need to contact the doctor?

To contact your doctor during business hours please call our main number 248-844-9710. If you have an urgent need to speak with the doctor after hours, you will be rerouted to our after hours answering service, and your doctor will be paged. In the case of a medical emergency please proceed directly to the nearest hospital emergency room.
